Mental Health First Aid is a course to educate individuals about how to interact with and support someone who may be developing a mental health issue or experiencing a crisis. Mental Health First Aid is offered by Purdue Extension facilitators. Facilitators are certified to teach this evidence-based program by the National Council for Behavioral Health. This TIC training, available through Public Health and YOU, is self-paced and available free of charge. Additionally, while the training provides a foundational curriculum to help the learner understand the basic components of TIC, it also gives access to three specialized modules to explore and apply TIC to youth, Veterans, and people with intellectual/developmental disabilities. All learners seeking CEUs are required to complete the Foundations of TIC module (4 hours) and your choice of one of the population specific applications (2 hours) in youth, veterans, or IDD to receive a certificate of completion for credit. Please join Kellie Meyer and the Crisis Intervention Teams from Vigo County and Hamilton County on a pre-recorded e-learning opportunity continuing the 2020-2021 Cultural Linguistic Competency Project. 

This 60-minute webinar is provided in three parts. 

In Part 1, Kellie Meyer, President of Kellie Meyer Training Solutions and subject matter expert on developing Crisis Intervention Teams, will share how to develop a Crisis Intervention program:

  • What is a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) 
  • How to define and develop a CIT program 
  • Key standards and stakeholders for a CIT 
  • How to host Stakeholder strategy meetings.

In Part 2, the Vigo County Crisis Intervention Team will share their experience and what they’ve learned in developing their own CIT program, as well as takeaways for rural community application. Learning objectives include:

  • How to form a CIT and how to build relationships 
  • CIT training must include education on mental health diagnoses and trauma-informed care 
  • Roles of community members in CIT 
  • Officer training on de-escalation and advanced de-escalation strategies.

In addition, Vigo County CIT panelists will share powerful experiences on how CIT training has supported them personally and professionally. (Please note that shared experiences may be a trigger.) 

In Part 3, the Hamilton County Crisis Intervention Team will discuss how to build relationships between local mental health providers and law enforcement teams. This will be followed by exploring the importance of recognizing, and then deconstructing, the stereotypes of law enforcement culture and mental health culture. Learning objectives include:

  • Understanding perceptions on law enforcement culture 
  • Understanding perceptions on mental health culture 
  • Building a culture of trust between law enforcement and mental health providers.

RECURRING MEETINGS

Last Tuesday of each month,   3:00pm – 4:30pm 

IAPRSS is excited to offer peer supervisors from across Indiana the ability to connect monthly to discuss strengths and improvements within the peer recovery profession and also their specific programs. The goal of this meeting will be to share best practices, policy/procedure that is effective and any other topics the supervisors feel may benefit their role, peers and organization. 

Topics may include:

  • Updates on what is the current state of peer support across Indiana and Nationally 
  • Identified service delivery modifications from supervisors 
  • How peers in recovery are being supported by their supervisor and organization 
  • Current strengths/concerns with peer programming 
  • Anything else supervisors would like to discuss/share

Wednesdays, 6:00pm

You’re not alone if you feel anxious or depressed frequently or even just from time to time. These feelings can be hard to talk about, although it helps a lot to talk out your emotions with others.

At the anxiety and depression support group, you will connect with others who understand the feelings you’re dealing with. No formal diagnosis is required.

This support group is facilitated by peers who have personally experienced anxiety and depression.
