Peer Run Organization (PRO) Accreditation

Peer Run Organizations (PROs) are organizations or programs led by people with lived experience of mental health challenges, substance use disorders, or both. Built on the principles of peer support, empowerment, and recovery, PROs provide welcoming, community-based environments where individuals can find connection, hope, and support from others who have walked similar paths.

Emerging from grassroots recovery and advocacy movements, PROs have become a recognized and essential part of today’s behavioral health system. Their strength lies in lived experience and the belief that recovery is possible for everyone.

The MHAI Recovery Network PRO Accreditation Program recognizes organizations or programs that meet established standards for quality, accountability, and recovery-oriented peer support. Accredited PROs are inclusive of individuals seeking support for mental health concerns, substance use disorders, or co-occurring challenges, ensuring that one recovery experience is never prioritized over another. Instead, accredited organizations embrace recovery and support the whole person through peer-led services, community connection, wellness activities, advocacy, and resource navigation.

By promoting high-quality, peer-driven services, PRO Accreditation strengthens trust, enhances organizational effectiveness, and advances recovery-oriented systems of care throughout Indiana.
