Peer Advisory Committee

Purpose of the PAC

MHAI Recovery Network Statewide Peer Advisory Committee

The MHAI Recovery Network Statewide Peer Advisory Committee brings together individuals across Indiana with lived or living experience of mental health conditions or serious mental illness. The committee helps ensure that peer voices, perspectives, and expertise are represented in statewide recovery efforts, services, supports, outreach, and decision-making.

PAC members share their experiences, offer meaningful feedback, and collaborate with one another to support recovery-oriented systems throughout Indiana. Through monthly virtual meetings and statewide engagement opportunities, members help identify ways to strengthen recovery supports, elevate peer leadership, and guide meaningful systems change across the state.

“As a person who has lived experience with mental illness, I believe it’s crucial that everybody has the right and ability to get the resources they need. It is easy to feel isolated when in a crisis, and believe there is nowhere to turn. While I still struggle with mental illness, I work hard to maintain stability and I strive to support others by creating a safe space for others to seek help. As an EMT, my job is to respond to others in emergency situations by providing compassionate, potentially life-saving care whether that be related to a physical illness, a mental health crisis, or just being there to listen to someone in their hardest moments.”

“Mental health (support) matters to me because for so many years I suffered in silence from an invisible disease. Mental Health has impacted multiple generations in my family and I’ve seen the devastating impact when it’s stigmatized and unmanaged and the amazing impact of when it’s identified and properly treated.”

“Mental health (support) is important to me because I’ve been through the dark moments myself, and I know how much it changes everything when someone simply walks beside you instead of walking away.”

“Mental health support is important to me because everyone deserves to feel heard, supported, and understood.”
